ISSA-NOVA Past President Brian Schultz Named to 2026 ISSA Hall of Fame

Longtime cybersecurity leader recognized with ISSA’s highest lifetime achievement honor for more than three decades of professional leadership, service and mentorship

RESTON VIRGINIA, VA. – Aug. 15, 2026 – The Information Systems Security Association – Northern Virginia Chapter (ISSA-NOVA) congratulates past chapter president Brian Schultz on his selection for induction into the 2026 ISSA Hall of Fame, the association’s highest lifetime achievement recognition.

ISSA International announced its 2026 award recipients Aug. 5, recognizing professionals and volunteers whose leadership, service and dedication have strengthened the cybersecurity profession. The Hall of Fame honors individuals whose exceptional leadership, professional accomplishments and enduring commitment have made a lasting impact on cybersecurity.

The awards announcement identifies Schultz as a cybersecurity thought leader, executive, mentor, author and volunteer leader whose career spans more than 30 years across government, nonprofit and private-sector organizations. It specifically recognizes his role in directing development of the U.S. Intelligence Community Directive 503 Cyber Risk Management Framework, which helped unify cyber risk management across the nation’s intelligence agencies.

For ISSA-NOVA, the recognition also reflects Schultz’s longstanding contributions to the chapter and the broader ISSA community. He served two terms on the ISSA International Board of Directors and previously served as president of ISSA-NOVA. During his chapter presidency, Schultz led ISSA-NOVA as it grew from approximately 350 to 640 members and became ISSA’s largest chapter, while also earning Chapter of the Year recognition. His ISSA service has also included recognition as a Distinguished Fellow and Honor Roll recipient.

“Brian Schultz has made a lasting contribution to both the cybersecurity profession and ISSA,” said Jim Wiggins, president of ISSA-NOVA. “His leadership helped shape ISSA-NOVA into a stronger and more influential professional community, while his work across government, industry and the nonprofit sector has advanced cybersecurity well beyond our chapter. This Hall of Fame recognition is a fitting acknowledgment of more than three decades of leadership, mentorship and service to the profession.”

Schultz’s professional contributions have extended across cybersecurity governance, risk management, information assurance, research and development, supply chain cybersecurity and workforce development. His career has included senior cybersecurity roles at Battelle, Gartner and other organizations, with work supporting government agencies, national-security organizations and private-sector enterprises. His professional profile also identifies service involving the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, FBI and Fortune 500 organizations.

At Battelle, Schultz served in senior leadership roles within the Cyber Innovations organization, where he managed cybersecurity advisory and research-and-development programs involving more than 150 cybersecurity scientists, engineers, researchers and senior advisers.

Schultz continues to contribute to the cybersecurity profession as co-host of the nonprofit Vigilant Forum, facilitating weekly discussions among senior cybersecurity leaders on emerging technology, cyber resilience, national security and critical infrastructure protection. His Hall of Fame nomination materials also describe his work as a speaker, author and mentor and note service on the Technical Advancement Center Advisory Board.

The 2026 ISSA International Awards Gala is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Schultz will be formally inducted.
