Interpretable Machine Learning in Cybersecurity Ph.D. Survey

Frank Gearhart is conducting research on how well machine learning can generate explanations for use by cybersecurity professionals. He is recruiting individuals who meet all of these criteria:

  1. Work in a position where your primary duties include cybersecurity activities.
  2. Are age 18 or older.

If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following activities:

  1. Complete an online survey for 8 minutes.

During these activities, you will be asked questions about:

  • Your level of cybersecurity experience, any academic degrees you hold, and any cybersecurity certifications you hold.
  • How well a machine learning-generated explanation about a malware detection event meets the four National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Four Principles of Explainable AI.
  • Your professional opinion regarding the explanations presented in the survey.
