Course Overview

ISSA-NOVA is offering a hands-on introductory program designed to provide foundational knowledge in Python-based SQL/Relational Database processing for security professionals and other technical practitioners with little to no programming experience.

The vast majority of corporate data is stored in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not able at this time to directly access that data. One of the roles of Data Science professionals is to use SQL to process, analyze, and convert that data into two dimensional (columns/rows) datasets which are fitted for AI processing.

This course introduces participants to essential RDBMS concepts and demonstrates how Python can be used to read data from flat files, convert and upload that data on Relational Database tables. In addition, the course will demonstrate how Python can create databases, generate tables on them, store data in them and extract that data into external file systems. This course is part of a series of courses that enables Cybersecurity professionals to acquire the knowledge that is required for new roles in Cyber data processing.

Through guided instruction, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, participants will gain experience in performing data manipulation, extraction, reporting, and transfer to external systems.

Developed by Constantinos Doskas, VP of Data Science, and Brandy Derogene, Director of Data Science. The course is taught by Brandy Derogene, an experienced technical instructor known for making complex topics accessible and actionable, this course blends instruction, examples, hands-on exercises, and guided troubleshooting to ensure participants gain confidence using Python in real environments.
