Laurie McQuillan/ISSA-NOVA Scholarship Fund

What is it?
The Laurie McQuillan ISSA-NOVA Scholarship Endowment was created to provide scholarships for full-time graduates and undergraduate students pursuing degrees at the George Mason University (Virginia) Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering, and specifically for students of financial need and academic merit with an interest in Information Assurance (also known as information security).

Who created it?
Initial funding will be provided by the ISSA-NOVA organization (Information Systems Security Association - Northern Virginia Chapter) for which Laurie was a founding member. We owe a big debt of gratitude to the current ISSA-NOVA Board, which pledged $25,000 into the endowment over the next five years, and particularly to the two champions for initiating and seeing this through: Mark Wilson, former ISSA-NOVA Board Chairman, and Marc Noble the current Chairman.

Why was it established?
Always the organizer, Laurie documented in her final wishes that friends, family, and colleagues consider donations in lieu of flowers to the George Mason University (and also to the American Cancer Society). With Laurie's passing January 5, 2007, the ISSA-NOVA Board began discussions with George Mason University to set up the endowment. ISSA-NOVA posted this memorial of Laurie on its website.

What can I contribute, and are donations tax deductible?
